First, about my name

Appa and Amma named me after a king who gave away his chariot. To a flower.

His name was Paari. He ruled an ancient, highly prosperous hill country called Parambu Nadu, and apparently he could not say no to anybody, ever.

One day he parked his chariot in the forest and wandered off somewhere. When he came back, a jasmine creeper had climbed all over it, looking for something to hold on to. So he just… left it there. Gave the whole chariot to the flower. Amma calls this generosity. I call it losing a chariot.

Now I'm supposed to live up to it. So far I have shared one banana, and honestly, I regretted it immediately.

A few moments from my year

Keep scrolling, here's what I got up to

Amma and Appa keep taking videos of me all the time — so there's plenty. No sound though, apparently I come with a lot of volume.

Day one

I arrived, and I had notes

Bright lights, cold hands, total strangers holding me. Nobody asked my opinion once. I made my feelings very clear for about eleven weeks.

No sound
Hospital, first day. Fully asleep, still complaining.

Once the teeth showed up

Everything goes in the mouth

This is not a bad habit. This is research. The teether is fine. The TV remote is better. Amma's phone is the current champion, but they keep taking it away before I finish testing.

No sound
Ongoing research. Do not disturb.

Every few weeks

Appa sees something on Instagram at midnight

By Thursday it has arrived from Amazon. By Friday I am wearing it. I am never asked. I have been a dog. I have been Santa Claus. Amma just laughs and takes the video.

No sound
Order #1. I did not agree to this.
No sound
Order #2. The beard was itchy. Nobody cared.

Somewhere in the middle

Then I found out about water

This is the best thing that has happened to me. I splash, I kick, I look at Amma like I invented it. Getting me out of that tub is a whole negotiation, and I usually win.

No sound
Bath time. My favourite time. Do not rush me.

And now, month twelve

I now walk around the house and eat all the dust like a robo vacuum

Wherever I go, whatever is on the floor goes straight in the mouth. Amma sweeps, I re-inspect. It's a system. Come to the party and you can watch me patrol.

No sound
On patrol. Nothing on this floor is safe.
Appa and Amma don't really think of this as a birthday party. To them it's just their favourite people coming over to wish me and have a good time together.
— so really, just come and be with us

Appa built this entire website just to invite you. A text message existed the whole time. He knew. He built it anyway. That's how much you matter to him. So please come, okay?

Lots of love,Appa & Amma(and Paari, who approved this message.)
